The view from Novamed: Expert Insights on Continence Care
For many of us, there may come a time when we or a loved one will need to use a continence pad. These pads, often referred to as incontinence pads, serve a vital purpose by allowing us to continue with life's more important activities without worry.
For some, this need may be permanent. Thankfully, modern products, such as those from Novamed, offer quiet, comfortable, and effective solutions. As with most things in life, the key to success is choosing the right product. A poorly fitted pad, much like baggy pants, will not be comfortable or effective – it will leak!
Choosing the Right Novamed Incontinence Pad
To ensure your Novamed pad fits comfortably and reduces the risk of leakage, it's essential to measure your waist correctly. Think of it like the story of Goldilocks – not too big, not too small, but just right!
Novamed Product Range
Novamed offers three primary options for continence care:
-
Flat Underpad: This provides reassurance for non-washable surfaces like car seats, offering a protective layer that helps prevent accidents.
-
Novamed Pull-up: A disposable pant with an integral pad, eliminating concerns about pads falling out or clogging the loo. Available in three hip sizes, each pack contains 14 pull-ups. This product is ideal for men or women with milder continence issues.
-
All-in-One Adult Nappy: Designed for severe cases, these are available in three sizes with 30 nappies per pack. This option provides excellent containment for both liquid and solid waste.
Why Body-Worn Products Work Best
Body-worn incontinence products, such as the Novamed range, are typically the best option for effective containment. Keeping the pad close to the body maintains contents at body temperature, which helps minimise odour and reduces the risk of skin irritation.
How to Store Your Novamed Pads
To ensure your Novamed pads perform at their best, store them in a dry location like the bottom of your wardrobe or in the airing cupboard. Avoid humid environments such as bathrooms or garden sheds, as moisture can affect the pad's efficiency.
Using Creams with Your Novamed Pad
Routine use of creams isn't necessary and could impact your pad's effectiveness by creating a waterproof barrier. Only apply cream when recommended by your Health Care Professional, and remember to use it sparingly.
How Novamed Pads Work
The absorbent layer of your Novamed incontinence pad is covered by a comfortable fabric that allows liquids to pass through and into a mix of fibres that retain them. These fibres are essential for the pad's performance. However, all pads have limits, so selecting the correct type and size is key.
When to Change Your Novamed Pad
You don’t need to change your Novamed pad every time you use the loo, unless it's full. However, if there are any markings on the back of the pad, it’s time to change it. If you're disposing of used pads at home, place them in a bag before adding them to the normal household waste. Don't forget to wash your hands afterward.
